Charing Cross Library is a busy library serving residents, commuters and the local Chinese community, and is home to our CD collection.

3. Church Street Library

Church Street Library is a bustling community library with a dedicated area for young people, a business information point and a learning centre.

Youth area

Church Street Library has an area dedicated for young people aged 13 to 19. 

The area has been designed with the help of local teenagers and has:

  • a gaming area with flat screen TVs, an X-Box, PlayStation and Nintendo Wii
  • books and resources chosen by teenagers
  • a chill-out area equipped with comfy soft seating
  • a quiet homework area with a weekly homework club to help students with additional after school study
  • WiFi internet access

Access for people with disabilities

This library has ramped access on the outside and a lift inside making it suitable for wheelchairs. There is a wheelchair-accessible toilet on the first basement floor which can be reached via the lift. There are steps with handrails at the entrances. Registered assistance dogs are welcome.

4. Express Library

The express library is a self-service library located on the ground floor of the Archives Centre.

Last admission is 10 minutes before closing and last production of archives is 30 minutes before closing.

There's no need to make an appointment but you might like to telephone first to check we have the materials you want.

We don't take advance orders for documents but can usually produce items from the strong rooms without a long delay.

5. Little Venice Sports Centre Library

This completely self-service library has the longest opening hours of any Westminster library.

This is an attractive community library with a small children's section. It is an approved venue for wedding and civil partnership ceremonies.

9. Paddington Library

This is a large and busy community and children's library with a business information point. The adult library and children's library are in 2 separate buildings.

Paddington Children’s Library

Paddington Children’s Library is being redeveloped; during this time the same range of books, services and activities will be available at the temporary location listed below and no services will be lost during the proposed redevelopment.

The new Paddington Children’s Library is expected to return to its old location in a brand new building in 2018. We would like to hear your views on the new design, so email any ideas to Paddington Library.

The adult library has level wheelchair access and a lift for people with impaired mobility (suitable for wheelchair users). The ground floor is level and is where the fiction collection, music recordings and DVDs are found. The adult reference library, study area and the non-fiction items are in the basement with access via a 19-step staircase with handrails. Registered assistance dogs are welcome.

The children's library does not have wheelchair access, but registered assistance dogs are welcome.

10. Pimlico Library

This is a large library with a huge range of facilities serving the general public and Pimlico Academy.

14. Westminster Chinese Library

Westminster Chinese Library is based at Charing Cross Library and holds one of the largest collections of Chinese materials in UK public libraries.

15. Westminster Music Library

This is one of the largest public music libraries in the UK that was founded in 1946 with the music collections of music critic Edwin Evans. It is inside Victoria library.

  • please note on Saturdays - the rehearsal/ practice room is available for bookings from 10am. Reserved items, including pre-paid performance sets, may be collected in Victoria Library from 9.30am.

If you're looking for the music to a song, use the song index to view all our song albums. The index draws information from our collection of 75,000 songs so search for titles in 100s of volumes of printed music anthologies.

Access for people with disabilities

This library is not wheelchair accessible as there is no lift and it is on the first floor of Victoria Library. It is accessible via a staircase (30 steps) with handrail. However, we offer a free postal service for anyone who finds it difficult to access the library so please contact us for more information. Registered assistance dogs are welcome.

16. Westminster Reference Library

This is a specialist public reference library with regular and varied events, exhibition space and a business information point. There are also 3 reading rooms available for reading and study.

There is no wheelchair access but we can make our material available at another Westminster library branch upon request.

There are 2 steps at the entrance, then 6 steps immediately inside the building to the ground floor. The library is on 3 floors with stairs to all levels but there is no lift. You can find the following collections on each floor:

  • ground floor: general reference material, government publications, legal and business information
  • first floor: performing arts, fine art, design and photography collections
  • second floor: a quiet reading and study area and a collection of art books for loan

Registered assistance dogs are welcome.

Did you know that you can arrange to bring your class to the library?

We offer a range of fun, free sessions for schools. Ranging from an introductory visit to the library, to reading for pleasure by exploring favourite authors, to looking at online resources for homework help. We can also tailor your class visit, so please contact your local library to discuss what is possible.
