Greening Westminster projects

Find out about how the Greening Westminster fund has helped our communities build green spaces.

George’s Park

George’s Park near Baker Street is a new public green space providing some much-needed green space for local workers and residents to enjoy during their breaks.

The ‘Open Spaces Greener Places’ funding from 2021 and partnership funding from both the Portman Estate and Baker Street Quarter Partnership helped transform an unused and unloved space into a parklet.

Nestled between two buildings, the project used funds to install a seating area with timber decking, surrounded by raised planters that provide greening to improve air quality and enhance biodiversity.

The partners also collaborated on a flora and fauna-inspired mural, which has helped signpost to the park and increase use. As part of the process, Baker Street Quarter consulted local community stakeholders, including residents and workers, through online sketch and chat workshops to help develop the mural design.

The project is an excellent example of a shared vision successfully delivered through collaborative partnerships.
