What is place shaping?
The place shaping team is a design and strategy team which focuses on areas of opportunity and change. We have expertise across architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, planning and community engagement.
The team co-creates 'place plans' with the community and stakeholders. They create a cohesive vision for areas for the short, medium and long term. These form the basis to identify funding and to deliver vibrant, joyful, sustainable and resilient places for the future.
We know that the built environment has a profound impact on our lives. Our focus is on the design of spaces which should maximise community impact, for example, but not limited to:
- streets
- squares
- parks
- gardens
- community centres
- civic buildings
We aim to make these places inviting, inspiring and inclusive. We do this while balancing the needs of people and our planet.
Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. Our plans are co-created with local communities and stakeholders such as Neighbourhood Forums, Community Associations, Business Improvement Districts, business owners and landowners, big and small.
These plans present a shared vision, as well as deliverable projects. They build on the principles and policies within the London Plan 2021 and Westminster's City Plan 2019 to 2040 to offer a more localised and detailed place-based approach to urban development.
Other areas of emerging work include Victoria and Pimlico.
