What is Covent Garden public realm framework?

The Covent Garden public realm framework presents a vision and main design principles to protect and improve the public realm of this thriving area in the centre of Westminster.

The document includes a map with a number of proposed projects and a selection of illustrations to show the potential that these projects could have.

How this document will be used

This document brings together our shared ambitions for the future of Covent Garden.

The Covent Garden public realm framework is not an indicator that we will provide the measures laid out in the document. Beyond this document, specific projects will be subject to individual detailed design processes as and when appropriate.

It is not a statutory document. It is intended to provide information and thinking over a 10-year period and will be reviewed and updated every two years with our stakeholders and partners.

The Covent Garden public realm framework is best read in conjunction with the current version of Westminster Way: Public realm strategy from 2011:

Many of the principles and key public realm opportunities outlined in the document are closely based on the Neighbourhood Traffic Management scheme currently being trialled across the area.
