Warwick Avenue public realm project

Our proposals to improve the public spaces around Warwick Avenue

In January 2024 we began a design project to improve the public street spaces at Warwick Avenue by undertaking an initial phase of community engagement to understand which kind of improvements matter most to you.

Now we would like to invite to have your say about the preliminary design proposals via our survey.

About the project

Warwick Avenue’s location, size and tube station mean it is a natural centre for the neighbourhood and a gateway to Little Venice, as well as a residential street. The current layout and cluttered pedestrian environment limit the potential for local use and enjoyment of Warwick Avenue. Westminster City Council wants to create a more welcoming and usable local centre for everyone, with improved public spaces and station environs, along with a safer more accessible and greener route towards the canal and Paddington beyond.

The Warwick Avenue is the first public realm design project to come forward from the council’s recently published Paddington Public Realm Strategy.

Place Shaping and Highways teams will manage the project and have appointed a design team led by Context Office urban designers, with BBUK landscape design and Studio Dekka lighting design.

Timeline

The project’s design phase commenced in January 2024 alongside focused stakeholder and community engagement events throughout February and March.

The design team then distilled all the engagement findings into a report which you can download.

Alongside community and stakeholder engagement, technical surveys and studies were conducted to understand the challenges and opportunities.

The community and technical feedback led to the creation of a series of project objectives, which formed the departure point for the design approach. The design team created four preliminary design proposals that differ in degrees of change and ambition.

Now we want to hear what you think about the proposals.

Have your say

Between Wednesday 10 July and Friday 2 August, a public exhibition will be installed at Warwick Avenue showcasing the public realm proposals. If you are unable to attend in person, you can view the exhibition boards digitally by downloading them

In order to collect your feedback to the proposals, we encourage you to respond to our short digital survey. The survey will be live for 4 weeks from 10 July till 7 August.

Your participation is invaluable in shaping the designs for Warwick Avenue.
