About the project

The council was granted planning permission to build new, modern homes on the site of the former Westmead care home in 2021.

This project will deliver:

  • 65 new homes, of which at last 35% will be affordable
  • 8 for social rent and 12 for intermediate rent
  • 7 wheelchair accessible homes
  • One, two, three and four-bed homes, including family-friendly duplexes with their own front door on Tavistock Road
  • Private amenity space, either a balcony or a private garden for each new home
  • Improved green space for the wider community
  • 121 new cycle spaces

Project status

We were granted planning permission last year to deliver 65 new homes on the site of Westmead Care Home in March 2021.

We are currently in the process of procuring a contractor to deliver the new homes. As with all our development projects, we are committed to achieving best value while also delivering high quality new homes. We have been exploring the best options to procure the right contractor to deliver our proposals here, in light of the difficult economic climate and rising construction costs, and this has unfortunately led to some delays.

In the meantime, a contractor has put up hoardings to ensure the site is safe and kept in good order.

Background documents

We consulted with the local community and received planning permission in March 2021.
