Who can vote

You must:

  • be registered to vote in the Abbey Road ward
  • be 18 or over on the day of the election (polling day) 4 July
  • be a British, Irish, qualifying Commonwealth or EU citizen
  • not be legally excluded from voting

EU citizens can vote in this by-election because the City of Westminster has not yet started its Eligibility Confirmation Review (ECR) of EU electors.

To stand as a candidate at this election, however, any EU citizen must be a qualifying EU citizen or an EU citizen with retained rights.

Key dates

  • Publication of Notice of Election, Thursday 30  May 2024.
  • Delivery of nomination papers opens from  9am on Thursday 30 May 2024. Nomination papers can be delivered between 9am and 5pm each day, up to 4pm on Friday 7 June 2024.
  • Deadline for receiving applications to register to vote, if not already registered, Tuesday 18 June 2024.
  • Deadline to apply for a postal vote and for changes to existing postal or proxy votes, 5pm Wednesday 19 June 2024.
  • Deadline to apply for a proxy vote, not postal proxies or emergency proxies, 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024.
  • Deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate, a free form of voter ID, 5pm Wednesday 26 June 2024.

In-person polling will take place from 7am to 10pm on Thursday, 4 July 2024.

Voters voting in person at polling places will need to show photo ID.
