Westminster on Wheels to tour estates

The WOW crew

A new mobile housing service is out and about across Westminster, giving people the chance to raise issues on their doorstep.

Phase 1 of the new Westminster on Wheels bus is visiting resident estates every week until the end of June. Further dates to cover the remaining estates on a fortnightly basis forms phase 2 of the pilot, and will cover the months July - December 2019. Residents will be contacted soon with the new dates.

This is part of the change in approach since housing services came back in to the council on 1 April this year, following the dissolution of CityWest Homes.

The bus is open between 10am and 7pm, and is filled full of experts and people who are tasked by the council with fixing residents’ problems quickly.

Cllr Andrew Smith, Westminster City Council cabinet member for housing services, said: “At our listening events early this year we heard so many times that people wanted housing services to be proactive and visible.

“The new Westminster on Wheels bus is certainly eye-catching, and it gives residents a chance to drop in and speak to someone who can help. So far the bus has visited three estates and spoken with more than 150 residents about issues relating to leaks, parking and employment. ”

“We are putting residents first and I hope that many more people will visit our Westminster on Wheels bus in the coming months.”

Mr Stephen Warwick, a resident on Lillington and Longmoore Gardens estate who visited the bus on 17 April said: “This is a one stop shop for me as I have a couple of anti-social behaviour issues that I wanted to see someone about. I came here and got the answers that I wanted without having to wait very long.”

Residents can come on board on the day to:

• Meet members of your housing team
• Report or enquire about a repair
• Meet members of the income team who can let you know where to get help and advice on money matters
• Talk to our anti-social behaviour team
• Meet our contractors and partners who work on your estate
• Find out about employment and education opportunities

You can view the full list of dates and locations here. We are currently in the process of arranging visits to the rest of our estates over the coming months and will update residents on when Westminster on Wheels will be coming to see them soon.
