Last week, with the help of many partners and volunteers, we delivered festive packages to elderly and sheltering residents across the borough in time for Christmas.

We delivered afternoon tea boxes to over 1000 of our elderly residents. These contained condiments such as finger sandwiches, fresh fruit and sweet treats, and residents had a wide choice of dietary options from halal to vegan. The boxes were donated by Westminster Housing and our partners including Effectable, Gem, Morgan Sindall, Oakray, Precision Lifts, Continental, Axis Europe and United Living. These were then delivered by volunteers amid a lovely and joyous atmosphere.

A number of organisations also came together to deliver over 1000 Christmas hampers to our sheltering residents. These hampers consisted of a range of wintry goodies including chocolates, reusable coffee mugs and scarves. The hampers were donated by Weatherby Prep School, South Westminster BIDs, Lord’s Cricket Ground, Willmott Dixon, Age UK and the Simon Milton Foundation, who also donated Christmas vouchers for families and children in need.

Councillor David Harvey, Cabinet Member for Housing Services, who delivered some of the festive packages to our residents said:

“More than ever, our local residents and communities deserve as much festive cheer as they can get. I am delighted the Council is delivering over a thousand food hampers and festive tea boxes to the most vulnerable in our communities, many of whom have had to isolate for the best part of the year. It has been a privilege to play a small part in these deliveries, and it has also been great to see so many Councillors and Council officers get stuck in, delivering what I am certain are incredibly welcomed gifts after such a tough year.”

Thank you to all our partners and volunteers for bringing a smile to many residents during a very challenging time. We hope that these packages provide some festive joy during this Christmas period.
