Recycling electrical appliances

All waste electrical and electronic equipment must be collected separately from general rubbish.

1. Large electrical appliances

Large items can be taken to Smugglers Way in Wandsworth or picked up by our bulky waste service, for a fee.

2. Small electrical appliances

Small electrical appliances can be disposed in banks at these locations. 

Do not place any other items such as clothes in the banks.

3. What you can put in the recycling banks

You can use our recycling banks for:

  • phones and chargers
  • remote controls
  • VCRs
  • digiboxes
  • electronic toys
  • kettles
  • hairdryers
  • electric toothbrushes
  • shavers
  • hair straighteners
  • irons
  • small DIY tools
  • clocks
  • radios
  • cables
  • keyboards, mice, speakers etc

* Electrical items need to be under 60cm in length and under 30cm in width and height.

4. What you can't put in the recycling banks

You can't use the recycling bins for:

  • TV monitors
  • computers*
  • light bulbs
  • batteries
  • anything that will not fit in the chute (over 40 cm or 16" in size)

* Although computers can be recycled in these bins, there have been cases of theft from the bins. We are not liable for the theft of personal data from your equipment if placed in the recycling bins. We recommend that to recycle your computer, use your retailer's take back scheme, arrange a bulky waste collection with us or take your computer to one of the reuse and recycling centres.

5. Trade in your mobile gadgets

You may be able to trade in your tablet or smartphone in at Argos in exchange for vouchers. 

6. What we do with your recycling

Small domestic appliances are collected from the small appliances recycling bins and are taken to Sweeep Kuusakoski, Sittingbourne, Kent.

Fridges and large domestic appliances collected by the Bulky Waste Collection Service and are taken as separate loads to EMR, Willesden, London and treated separately due to the hazardous CFC gases contained in fridges.
