How to dispose of bulky waste

Bulky waste collection service

You can book a bulky waste collection service with us for £32 for up to 6 items.

Each additional item is £6 per item. We aim to complete your collection within 3 working days. 

If you receive Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support, the service is free. However, this is limited to 1 collection, of up to 6 items, every 90 days. 

We collect:

• fridges 
• cookers 
• beds - including mattresses and bed frames 
• sofas 
• tables 
• wardrobes 
• washing machines 
• other large electrical items and furniture

Once you have booked the collection online, the booking team will aim to call you back within the next working day for chargeable requests. They will then advise you of the next available collection slot and your collection will be made within three days. Adding or removing items after booking is not possible. 

If you are booking a bulky waste collection with a concession request (for example if you are receiving Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support), once you have booked the collection online our booking team will aim to call you back within two working days. The team will then advise you of the next available collection slot and your collection will be made within three days. Adding or removing items after booking is not possible. 

Please let us know your availability for a call-back during office hours, 9am to 5pm.

We will make three attempts to contact you and leave a message if possible. If you don't get back to us after the third call, your collection will be cancelled and you will have to rebook. 

Where to leave your collection 

Items for collection should be left in front gardens, communal reception areas or communal bins stores.

We offer assisted bulky waste collections (where we will come into your property to collect the bulky waste items) for any resident who is physically unable to leave their items outside their property.

On private land, if access to the item is difficult, it is best to leave the bulky items on-street on the day of collection, as long as access isn’t blocked to the property or road

You can also take your bulky household waste to the household waste recycling centre at Smugglers Way. 

Freecycle and Freegle 

This is often the quickest and easiest way to get rid of an item that is in a useful condition. 

Membership is free. You can give your old items to someone in the community using these independent online networks that are entirely non-profit.

Charities 

There are many charities such as the RSPCA and British Heart Foundation, who can remove your good quality bulky items and resell them. Please contact these charities or your local charity shop for more information.
