Second housing service centre opens to support residents in Pimlico

A new housing service centre for residents to speak face-to-face with Westminster City Council housing staff has opened on Charlwood Street, Pimlico.

To mark the opening, the Leader of Westminster City Council, Cllr Adam Hug, and Cllr Liza Begum, Cabinet Member for Housing Services, attended a launch along with residents and residents’ associations.

Those who attended had the chance to speak with councillors and housing staff to ask questions and understand the wide range of services offered by the new centre.

The Charlwood Street centre marks Westminster Council’s second office opening in a matter of months following the launch of the Queens Park service centre on the Mozart Estate in June.

Two further housing offices in Bayswater and Soho are being planned following feedback from residents who want housing officers to be closer to the community.

Darlene Torey, Chair of Residents’ Association for Lillington and Longmoore Gardens, has lived on the estate for 40 years.

Darlene said:

“I think it's fantastic that it's been brought back as it's been a missing link for us.

"Residents have struggled with the system that replaced it, the contact centre, and this will be a lot easier for residents moving forward to have the estate office just across the road from where they live.”

Cllr Liza Begum, Cabinet Member for Housing Services at Westminster City Council, said:

“Opening this second centre is part of our commitment to create accessible hubs within the community, making it easier for our residents to reach out to us for support, enquiries, and assistance.

“We will continue to listen and engage with our communities and make any necessary changes or improvements in order to provide a quality housing service which supports everyone.”

The council’s Fairer Westminster Delivery Plan commits to giving tenants better face-to-face contact with housing staff by increasing the locations officers can work from across the city.
