Libraries - COVID-19 updates

Westminster’s libraries and the Archives Centre are offering a reduced service under National lockdown: Stay at Home measures.

Last updated: 14 April 2021

We’re reopening more of our libraries with increased services in-line with the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown. From Monday 12 April, Mayfair, Paddington Children's and Westminster Reference Library will join the rest of our libraries in opening to the public. We are welcoming back customers with heightened hygiene and social distancing measures in place to ensure everyone can safely enjoy all that our Libraries and Archives have to offer.

Our libraries will be open to provide:

  • browsing
  • answering enquiries
  • limited study spaces
  • access to computers, which can now be booked in advance
  • reservations, which are still free of charge for the time being

Please note that Victoria and Westminster Music libraries are still closed.

Visitors to the libraries will be asked to observe the Government’s guidelines on face coverings and social distancing. We are also participating in NHS Test and Trace.

Returned items will be quarantined for 72 hours. Library items on loan will continue to be automatically renewed and there will be no overdue or reservation charges during this period. Any account which has been suspended will be temporarily reinstated to ensure everyone can access the library items they need.
