Accessible and inclusive spaces
How we are working to improve access around Westminster for all.
Westminster Council is committed to creating inclusive spaces for everyone in our community. By making our operational buildings more accessible, we ensure that people with physical disabilities and neurodiverse needs can navigate, use, and benefit from these spaces without barriers. This initiative reflects our dedication to equality, enhancing the usability of public services for all residents. By adapting our facilities—whether through physical adjustments like ramps and lifts, or sensory-friendly designs for neurodiverse individuals—we aim to foster a more welcoming and supportive environment, empowering everyone to fully participate in the community.
Please explore the resources available on this page, and feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or require additional assistance. Thank you for visiting, and we look forward to supporting you in your journey to accessing the services and facilities you need.
We have recently rolled out the disability aware platform WelcoMe across our libraries and archive centre, and leisure centres to make your visit as personable and anxiety free as possible.
What will be expected when I visit a library using WelcoMe?
- Using the WelcoMe platform, you can create your own profile and include your access needs and information about what support you require.
- This information is sent to the customer service or front of house team at your selected venue.
- The aim of the WelcoMe website is to give you confidence that your needs are understood and will be met upon arrival at the venue.

As part of our commitment to creating a more accessible city and following on from public requirements we are creating three new Changing Place toilets across Westminster. We plan to have these works completed and toilets operational within the next 18 to 24 months.
To make this happen we are working with Muscular Dystrophy UK to put the correct measures in place following British Standard (BS) 8300.
The logo for a Changing Place toilet has been designed to highlight the differences between a standard accessible toilet and a Changing Place toilet.
