If you’re between 17-24 and looking at building a new skill that is in high demand, Westminster Wheels offers a paid six month programme in cycle mechanics.

What is Westminster Wheels?

Westminster Wheels is a project developed by Westminster City Council with Groundwork London and Cycle Confident. By joining the project, you will be able to:

  • learn how to refurbish unwanted bikes and provide affordable high quality bikes for Westminster residents
  • get a training and employment experience to help prepare you for a career in the growing cycle industry

What are we offering?

If you live in Westminster and are aged between 17-24 this accredited training could be for you. It’s recognised by the cycle industry and will lead into a six-month job with Westminster Wheels, paid at the London Living Wage, under the supervision of a very experienced mechanic.

During these six months, you will be offered support to find a long-term career in the cycle industry.

How can I get involved?

Westminster Wheels training is available to anyone who:

  • lives in Westminster
  • is 17-24 and not in work
  • has a level 1 qualification in Maths and English

To find out more and book a place on one of our taster days for you or someone you are supporting, please send an email to [email protected]

What will happen after that?

We’ll confirm you’ve got a place on one of the taster days and let you know where and when they are taking place.

After the taster day, if you’re still interested in the opportunity, you’ll be invited back to an enrollment day and take some assessments to check you’re ready for the course.

You’ll start on our accredited training course which will cover bike maintenance, customer care, employability and health and safety.

Everyone completing the course will get an interview for one of the trainee mechanic roles we’re offering in Westminster Wheels.

The successful applicants will be offered a six month contract at our workshop in Westminster and then supported to find further work in the cycling industry.

If you’re unsuccessful, Groundwork will continue to support you to find the right opportunity.
