Exhibition space at Westminster Reference Library

Westminster Reference Library has an attractive exhibition space for hire on the first floor of the library.

Specifications and equipment

  • size of the space is approximately 5.4m by 4.8m/ 18' by 16'
  • height of the picture rail is 220cm/ 7'3
  • hanging system is picture rail, rail hooks, nylon cord and zipper hooks, enough 20 pictures of up to 15kg in weight
  • chains and hooks available for heavier items
  • other items available for display: vertical display cabinet, two horizontal display cabinets, long oak table
  • private views and other events associated with the exhibition can be accommodated
  • exhibitions go up on Monday morning and are taken down by 3pm on the Saturday at the end of the hire period

Exhibition criteria

Exhibitions are required to have a viable connection with the library's specialist collections such as art, design, performing arts, business and law collections.

The library will judge submissions on these and the following criteria: suitability, interest of subject matter, connection to core subjects of collections, professional standards.

In accordance with council guidelines, the library will exercise its right to vet material to be exhibited, for potential to offend, or sensitivity issues, relating to ethnic, religious, political and diversity grounds.

Material must be submitted for inspection and cleared with the appropriate officer in good time, before hanging.

Costs: £250 per week; reduced rates are available for Westminster residents. A £50 deposit is required three months before the exhibition.
