Edward Harvist Trust

The Edward Harvist Trust gives grants to organisations that work to improve the quality of life for local people. The Trust makes grants to support:

  • the relief of elderly and disadvantaged residents
  • the relief of distress and sickness
  • the provision and support of facilities for recreation and leisure with the aim of improving the quality of life.
  • the provision and support of educational facilities
  • any other charitable purpose related to the points above

About the fund

Our communities department administers the trust funds on behalf of the Edward Harvist Trust for the City of Westminster area. The Edward Harvist Trust fund in Westminster has now moved to two grant funding rounds per year. In each of the two rounds, there will be approximately £20,000 to £30,000 available in total, meaning that applicants are likely to receive a grant no larger than £2,000 to £3,000 and should submit applications with this in mind.

Current applications

As of March 2024, applications are open for the fund and applicants should download the application form at the bottom of this page, fill it out and send it back to [email protected] with the subject line "Edward Harvist Trust Application". Please also make sure to attach the documents indicated in the form, published accounts and budget. Applications for this round must be completed and sent in by Monday 15 April 2024.

Important notice for future applications

Starting from October 2024, full applications should be submitted via the online application that will go live on this webpage at the opening of each funding round, please see the dates below. You will not be able to save the application once started so applicants are encouraged to prepare and save their answers separately before starting the online form. A copy of the application questions can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.

Grant applications will be processed when each round of applications closes, and announcements to all applicants will be made within 4 to 6 weeks after the application deadline.

The new timelines from October 2024 onwards are as follows:

Open Application deadline Approximate assessment and decisions timeline Approximate announcement date
October 1 October 31 November and December 15 December

General criteria for applicants:

  1. Grants are made to organisations rather than individuals. These must be registered not-for-profit organisations.
  2. Grants are not offered to cover the costs of any provision that is deemed to be a statutory responsibility. Grants can be made to statutory organisations provided that they are for provision over and above the statutory responsibility.
  3. Grants can be used to support projects or running costs, in line with the Trust’s charitable objects. This can include equipment costs, staff fees, rent and utilities. These must contribute to fulfilling the same charitable purposes above.
  4. In Westminster, from October 2024, applications are accepted from organisations through our online form only.
  5. Applicants can only be granted funding from the Trust once a year. For example, if you successfully receive grant-funding through the October 2024 application window, you should not apply again to the trust until October 2025.
