Food Hygiene Rating Scheme

Request a food hygiene rating inspection, or a revisit. You can also appeal or reply to a previous visit.

We operate the national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS), which is run by local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland in partnership with the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme helps customers choose where to eat out or shop for food. Over 5,000 food outlets, such as restaurants, takeaways and pubs are registered with the council and these are inspected regularly by officers from the council’s Food Safety team. The officers check food premises to ensure hygiene standards meet legal requirements.
