Guidance on outdoor dining from 1 October 2021

To support hospitality businesses during lockdown, the council enabled al fresco dining schemes across Westminster, which received support from the local community.

All schemes and supporting al fresco dining measures will be removed after 30 September.

The council is currently consulting with local communities to see if they would like for schemes to continue beyond 30th September, and possibly develop a longer-term approach to al fresco dining in their local area.

The consultations for continuing al fresco dining in the following areas are now closed:

  • St John’s Wood High Street
  • Covent Garden (Henrietta Street, King Street, Maiden Lane and parts of Southampton Street)

If you are a hospitality business providing al fresco dining in these areas, all current pavement licences issued in earlier this year, will expire on 30 September 2021.

If you would like to continue to provide al fresco dining, you must submit a new application which will be valid for six months from 1 October 2021. This is in line with our existing table and chairs licences.

Applications will take up to 14 days to process and will cost £100 per application.

Please do not submit a licence application if road closures or barriers are not continuing in your area or in areas where consultations are not yet complete. Your application is likely to be refused and fees will not be refunded.
