Air quality data guidance

This guide describes the various data sources presented through our air quality tool and how they can be evaluated.

Air quality standards

In the UK, concentrations of air pollutants are regulated by the Government. In England, the Air Quality Standards Regulations 2010 sets values for the concentration of air pollutants. These limits are set to protect human health and the environment.

Our Fairer Westminster Strategy has ambitious standards for air quality and we want the City to match World Health Organization guidelines to limit residents’ and visitors’ exposure to air pollution.

The World Health Organisation offers global guidance on thresholds and limits for key air pollutants that pose health risks.

Our air quality data platform provides information on how the measured data from the monitors compares to the World Health Organisation guidelines, which are stricter standards than the limits set in the UK regulations.
