History

The main feature of the space is the Constitution Arch (more commonly known as the Wellington Arch), was designed by Decimus Burton as a memorial to the Duke of Wellington and was originally built as a northern grand entrance gate to the grounds of Buckingham Palace.

The site includes various other monuments including a statue of Byron, and both the New Zealand and Australian War Memorials.

In 1952 the sites name "Hyde Park Corner" was used as a code to inform the Government about the death of King George VI.
