Environmental protection
Whilst Trading Standards is not the primary enforcement agency for all environmental matters, we can enforce certain legislation.
We support legislation that has been introduced to improve the environment and supports these measures through our climate emergency action plan for a greener city.
Guidance on specific legislation
Detailed guidance on specific environmental protection can be found via the Chartered Trading Standards Institutes Business Companion.

Greenwashing
Some businesses claim their products or services are doing more to protect the environment than they actually are. They may claim to be eco-friendly, organic or natural but are not. These claims might be an offence under legislation that Trading Standards enforces.
