Cycle strategy

Our plans to encourage and support cycling across Westminster

Vision for cycling

In March 2013 the Mayor of London launched a 'Vision for Cycling'.

Our cycling strategy

In response to this document and in recognition of the growing number of people choosing to cycle, we developed a Cycling Strategy.

This sets out how we will help deliver this Mayoral vision at a local level, taking account of Westminster’s unique circumstances and challenges.

The strategy broadly covers the period up to 2026

It examines:

  • how people are changing the way that they travel into and around Westminster
  • the opportunities and challenges associated with the increase in cycling
  • how further growth will be encouraged and supported through a wide range of schemes and initiatives

From 3 December 2013 to 20 January 2014, we ran a public consultation on the draft strategy.

Almost 2000 responses were received to the consultation from Westminster residents, businesses, employees, visitors and stakeholders.

The responses have been reviewed, changes made to the strategy and a final strategy has now been adopted.
