Local Flood Risk Management Strategy

Original consultation

We are gathering views from residents and communities on how they experience flood risk and how it is managed. This will inform the actions and priorities as part of our Local Flood Risk Management Strategy.

Consultation description

We are updating our strategy that sets out how we reduce the risk of flooding and minimise any impacts of floods in the city, our Local Flood Risk Management Strategy.

In July 2021 parts of Westminster were heavily impacted by the floods resulting from the extreme weather events. We have investigated these flood events and already taken several actions to be better prepared. Besides surface water and sewerage flooding, some properties in the city are at risk from flooding from the River Thames.

As a Lead Local Flood Authority, the council has a responsibility to keep an updated Local Flood Risk Management Strategy. We want to develop this in collaboration with our communities.

At this stage, we are gathering evidence on flooding events and gathering initial views on flood risk management priorities. We aim to keep engaged with our communities as this strategy is being developed, and on the implementation of flood risk management projects.

Have your say

The survey has now closed.

Your responses to the survey will help us capture information on flood events. The better information we have on where flooding incidents have happened, the better we can respond to them. Your views on flood risk management priorities will also help shape the objectives of the strategy.

Contact us

As the Lead Local Flood Authority, we are responsible for coordinating the management of flooding from groundwater and surface water within the borough. We have a range of duties and powers to help reduce and manage flooding, including working closely with Environment Agency and Thames Water to provide a joint approach.

If you have any questions about the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy, or would like to engage with us in a community event, please email to [email protected].

Timeline and construction methodology

We will report on the outcomes of the initial survey after the summer, and we will keep those who have shared their contact details informed of the next stages of the development of our Local Flood Risk Management Strategy and opportunities to stay engaged.
