Westminster housing services scoop international prize

Westminster Council’s Housing Services team has received international recognition for its handling of the pandemic.

The council was awarded Bronze at the European Contact Centre and Customer Service Awards in the Responding in a Crisis – Supporting Customers (Public Sector, Healthcare and Charities) category.

The council’s Housing Customer Services team were nominated for the award for continuing to provide comprehensive support for residents during the move to working flexibly and throughout the pandemic.

The local authority faced stiff competition from a range of international and domestic organisations, including the NHS.

On receiving the award the council was also commended for its creation and organisation of Westminster Connects, the city’s army of volunteers who provided shopping services and other support throughout the first lockdown.

Neil Wightman, Director of Housing said:

“The health and wellbeing of our residents has been the central consideration in structuring our service. We faced a number of significant operational challenges at a time when our residents needed us most and I’m really pleased that we rose to the occasion.

“Our staff take pride in their work, continually going above and beyond to ensure that we provide the best possible services for our customers. This award is a welcome endorsement and will spur us on to keep improving and supporting our residents.”
