A new ‘Shop Safe’ campaign launched by Westminster City Council will welcome shoppers back to the capital’s most famous attractions safely in the run up to Christmas.

A range of measures have been introduced that strike a balance between Covid security and creating a Christmas atmosphere – allowing visitors to do their Christmas shopping safely and enjoyably.

Hand sanitising stations, widened pavements, social distancing signage, as well one-way systems, compulsory face masks in shops and protector screens by the tills will allow visitors to Oxford Street, Regent Street, Carnaby Street, Bond Street and Covent Garden to enjoy the sights and shop safely this December.

As part of the campaign the council has created an advent calendar for the 24 days running up to Christmas which, each day, will feature a different Christmas incentive, activity or offer available in the West End.

Westminster City Council Cabinet Member for Business and Planning Matthew Green said:

“Safety is our number one priority, and, while the experience will be different, we want residents and visitors to still be able to enjoy the West End's shops and festive lights this Christmas. To ensure that they can do so in safety, measures have been introduced across the City that will create safe, Covid-secure surroundings for shoppers.

“Christmas is the most important time of the year for retailers and it’s vital that we create an environment where the public can not only shop, but shop safely.”
