Westminster City Council proudly announces the distinction of being the sole borough in the UK with Green Heritage Accreditation for a housing estate, with the addition of Hallfield Estate securing the coveted Green Flag. This means our borough has not one but two Green Heritage Accreditations, marking a significant milestone in the preservation and enhancement of historical features within its green spaces.

The council, already holding three Green Flag Accreditations, continues to uphold its commitment to outstanding green space management. This dual success underscores the council's commitment to conserving historical features at the highest standards while maintaining their character and appearance.

The Green Flag Award, an esteemed international accreditation, recognizes superior green space management. Unlike automatic recognitions, Green Flags are earned through rigorous assessment, including mystery shopping and site evaluations.

Currently boasting Green Flag Accreditations for Lilington & Longmoore Estate, Churchill Gardens Estate, and Lisson Green Estate, Westminster City Council expanded its pursuit of excellence last year by applying for the Hallfield Estate to be considered for the prestigious Green Flag. This marked the first entry for a new site in a decade.

A resident of Hallfield estate for 65 years, Rose Clearly, said:

“The green spaces around here are priceless. We’re lucky to have so much of it in central London and it’s just for us. It’s nice to be credited for having a lovely estate.”

Cllr Liza Begum, Westminster City Council Cabinet Member for Housing Services, said:

"Achieving two Green Heritage Accreditations, in addition to our existing Green Flag accolades, reflects our unwavering dedication to the preservation and enhancement of green spaces in Westminster.

"We are not merely maintaining standards; we are consistently making improvements, and this achievement is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our contractors, resident groups, and volunteers in delivering a better environment for our residents."
