Local Flood Risk Management Strategy 2024-2030

Find out about our updated Local Flood Risk Management Strategy for 2024 to 2030.

As the Lead Local Flood Authority, we have a duty under Section 9 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 to develop, maintain, apply and monitor a strategy for local flood risk management. We also have a responsibility to update it every six years in collaboration with our communities.

Responses from engagement activities in 2023, as well as a formal consultation in 2024, helped to shape and influence the development of the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS).

Overview

The Strategy describes how flood risk is managed across Westminster and considers the risk of flooding from ordinary watercourses, groundwater and surface water. It outlines our priorities for managing local flood risk and sets out an Action Plan.

The LFRMS includes:

  • Objectives, measures and actions for managing local flood risk, along with how and when they are expected to be achieved.
  • An overview of the types of flooding Westminster is most vulnerable to.
  • The Risk Management Authorities within the boundaries of Westminster and which functions each authority has in managing local flood risk.
  • How engagement influenced the development of the Strategy.
  • A plan of how and when the Strategy is to be monitored and reviewed.
