What is Memory Lab?
Memory Lab was a pilot initiative created by Westminster City Council’s Smart City team. The scheme was based in Church Street Library and gave older residents the opportunity to digitise their old photos for free.
Converting old photos to digital files is an excellent way to preserve family history for generations to come.
Photos from life events, such as weddings, christenings, family gatherings and fun pictures from around your festive tables were all digitalised, making these memories last a lifetime.
The archives service is actively exploring options for reorganizing the service in the near future.
The project ran until 16 January 2024, where there were two drop-in sessions per week.

Users of the Memory Lab equipment were also asked whether their memories could be added to our Westminster Archives to help us improve the depth and diversity of our archives, improving social representation across council collections.
