Scams and bogus communications
Please be aware of scam and bogus Council Tax and business rate calls.
The Council Tax and Business Rate services do not ask anyone to provide bank details over the phone to enable a refund to be paid.
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from Westminster Council and they ask you for bank account or bank card details please ask for their full name, department and their direct phone number and then hang up.
Please then call 034 3178 2743 to check that the person is really from the Council Tax or call 0208 315 2050 for the business rates service. If, after this, you still think the caller is bogus, you should report the matter on our fraud hotline on 020 7361 2777.
There is an increase in scams involving the impersonation of bailiffs or enforcement officers. The government has published guidance to help protect people from scams.
