Counter terrorism (CONTEST)

Find out about our counter terrorism strategy.

If you’re caught up in an incident you should:

  • run, to a place of safety
  • hide, if you can’t run
  • tell, the police by calling 999

CONTEST is the UK’s counter terrorism strategy. It aims to reduce the risks from terrorism, so that people can go about their lives freely and with confidence. CONTEST has 4 strands:

  1. Prevent: to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. Learn more about Prevent in Westminster
  2. Pursue: to stop terrorist attacks.
  3. Protect: to strengthen our protection against a terrorist attack.
  4. Prepare: to mitigate the impact of a terrorist attack.  Learn more about Prepare in Westminster

We are aware of the continued threat that terrorism poses to Westminster’s communities, visitors and businesses.

Under the strategy we work in coordination with our partner agencies to respond to this threat in a manner that seeks to safeguard our community and preserve our way of life.
