Q. Anna and Izabela - How is estates and park landscape maintenance considering the climate and ecological emergency?
A. The council is continuing to improve biodiversity and improve the sustainability of its parks and open spaces (new strategy published March 2019). Only electric powered leaf blowers are used in Westminster managed parks and gardens and we continue to reduce annual planting and convert grassed areas to wildflower meadows.
We use leaf blowers to move leaves around to be more efficiently cleared, but we limit this to an 8-week period, normally from the end of October to mid-December.
