ABC Co-operative

The ABC Co-operative operates within the Atholl and Braemar Houses - blocks of three bedroom maisonettes in Maida Vale built in the early 1960s.

Membership of ABC Co-operative is open to all residents over the age of 18, who have a permanent tenancy or lease. Membership costs just £1, and entitles you to vote on issues affecting your home.

Responsibilities

The ABC Co-operative runs housing services for Atholl and Braemar Houses including:

  • general repairs and maintenance
  • cleaning
  • grounds maintenance
  • dealing with tenancy issues
  • communal decorations and associated repairs.

The council pays the co-operative an allowance to manage these services.

Progress made

The co-operative has made savings from its allowance to spend on improving the blocks including:

  • new front doors
  • internal water storage tanks
  • construction of new entrances
  • CCTV
  • hard surface landscaping to ground floor flats.

ABC Co-operative is currently discussing a merger with a neighbouring tenant management organisation (Thurso Dundee Co-operative). It is hoped a new Maida Vale resident management organisation will be agreed by August 2017.
