"Life has improved so much because the air in here is much nicer", said mum Samra Bajraktarevic who lives in a council home in Westbourne Park with her three children.
Her home is one of 1,450 homes to have benefited from Westminster City Council's Mould Busters service since it launched in 2016 to tackle mould, condensation and cold in council tenanted properties throughout the City. This equates to over 600 days of visits, with the team walking over 3,000 miles to resolve damp in over 12.3% of Westminster Housing tenanted homes.
The Bajraktarevic family were experiencing damp and contacted our service Mould Busters – a team which provides free condensation solutions to tenants – and received new technology which has helped to transform their health and home. Samra said:
“We had problems with both condensation and mould at the same time. So the Mould Busters service put in new extractor fans, and even though you can’t really see them they bring so many benefits. The guys who carried out the works were amazing too, I really was impressed by their service. They helped us to decide what to do about the problem and I have never regretted it. I would recommend the service. Our life is much healthier and I wish more people would use the service.”
Cllr Andrew Smith Westminster City Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Customer Service said:
“Residents deserve good quality housing which is free from damp and mould. Anyone who is suffering with condensation or mould issues in Westminster run-housing should get in touch and we will get in and fix it. Our service is completely free and part of our commitment to put residents first.”
Tenants can contact Westminster Housing direct to request a free home visit. The team will then visit the property, examine the issues and put in place solutions - all at no cost to our residents. Find out more on our condensation page.
