From 14 – 20 September 2020, Gas Safety Week will run across the United Kingdom. We're taking part and pledging our support to raise awareness of the dangers of poorly maintained gas appliances, causing gas leaks, fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

It's vital in these uncertain times to look out for our local communities' safety and ensure tenants and leaseholders know the risks of using gas in the home. Gas Safety Week is all about making sure you're aware of them and taking the right steps to keep yourself and your family safe. It is coordinated by Gas Safe Register, the official list of gas engineers (including our team) who are legally allowed to work on gas.

If you smell gas or think there might be a gas leak, call the free 24-hour national gas emergency number immediately on 0800 111 999.

We take our legal responsibility as a landlord seriously by ensuring that your home's gas appliances receive an annual service and inspection. During the coronavirus pandemic, these legal duties as a landlord have not changed, and we have continued to carry out these checks wherever possible.

The government's current advice is that we should make every effort to abide by existing gas safety regulations and take all reasonable steps to comply. All checks follow 'COVID-19 Secure' guidance, with workers wearing face coverings, gloves, and maintaining social distancing.

Please help us keep you safe by keeping your annual appointment to carry out this gas safety check if you are a tenant. We understand if you need to reschedule and are happy to work around your needs. Learn more about gas safety and how we keep tenants homes safe year-round.

If you are a leaseholder, you are responsible for organising your Gas Safe checks each year. You must never attempt to work on a gas appliance yourself; always seek the help of a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer who can work on your gas cooker, boiler, or fire in a safe way. Badly fitted and poorly serviced gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. CO is a highly poisonous gas that can kill quickly and without warning, as you cannot see it, taste it, or smell it.

By taking care of your gas appliances properly, you take care of your home, your loved ones, and even look out for your local community. You can find a registered engineer in your area by visiting the Gas Safe Register website.
