Young people leaving care

We help and advise young people aged 15-18 who are looked after by Westminster City Council, and 18 to 21 year-olds who have left our care. If you are aged under 21 and have been looked after by the council you are entitled to help from the Leaving Care Service. The team work under statutory guidance set out by the Leaving Care Act 2000.

We can help with:

  • Finding somewhere to live and setting up home
  • Education and training
  • Employment
  • Health issues
  • Money
  • Problems with bullying, violence and discrimination
  • Leisure
  • Relationships
  • Contact with family and friends

We also offer a 10 week programme, three times a year, which covers residential issues, budgeting, researching and independence skills training (only open to Westminster Accommodation and Leaving Care Team young people).

We aim to treat all young people fairly and give them the best service we can. You will be given your own worker from the team. They will be able to advise, support and assist you. They will carry on supporting you until you both agree you can manage alone. If you want to come back for advice and help you can at any time up until you are 21.
