Winners announced for the Westminster Community Awards

The Westminster Community Awards took place on Wednesday 1 June at the Victory Services Club to recognise volunteers who improve the lives of others. The event was held in partnership with One Westminster and Groundwork London.

The event featured performances from the Unique Dynamites dance group and Westminster Music Library’s Joint Forces Singers.

Congratulations to everyone who was a winner, highly commended or shortlisted.

Community Project Award

Winner: Westminster Chapel

Highly commended: Volunteering in Care Homes Project, One Westminster and In-Deep

Outstanding organisation award

Winner: DreamArts

Highly commended: The Mosaic Community Trust and The Connection at St Martin’s

The Sir Simon Milton award

Winner: Jane Buchanan, St. John’s Hospice

Highly commended: Josh Clark, Holy Apostles Sports Club, Saloah Al-Sakar, Arabic Women’s Social Group, Open Age and Jessica McDermott, Westminster Arts

Young or student volunteer award

Winner: Nourhan Meddah, Westminster Youth Council

Highly commended: Aby Murray, Westminster Youth Council and Samuel David Tan, St. John’s Hospice

Inspirational award

Winner: Maria Anastasi, One Westminster

Highly commended: Micky Solomon, The Stowe Centre, Fernando Martin, Riverside Care and Support and Zohra Davis, Al-Hasaniya, Moroccan Women’s Centre

The City for All volunteer of the year award

Winner: Reg Miles, Westminster Boating Base

Highly Commended: Matthew Clark, Holy Apostles Sports Club and Brian Whittaker, Advice Plus
