Nick Ross (Chair), British Radio and Television Presenter
Nick Ross is a broadcaster best known for current affairs and for the long-running crime appeal show Crimewatch.
He founded and is a visiting professor at the Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science and has served on serval national policing and crime prevention committees.
He also chairs or is a member of national bioethics, science and research committees. He is an honorary fellow of UCL, the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Surgeons, and is a non-executive director of Imperial College Healthcare Trust.
Sir Peter Bazalgette, Chair of the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation, member of the Prime Minister’s Holocaust Commission and author of The Empathy Instinct
Sir Peter was chair of the Arts Council England from 2013 to 2017 and is the current chair of ITV.
For 3 years he chaired the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation and currently heads the trustees of the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction.
He is the author of a number of books, including The Empathy Instinct (John Murray, 2017). He has also written a food column for the Financial Times and was the TV critic for Prospect Magazine
In business, Peter chairs the online retailer, LoveCrafts.
Professor Gloria Laycock, OBE, former Home Office policing adviser and Director UCL Jill Dando Institute of Criminal Science
Gloria has a BSc and PhD in psychology from UCL. She established and led the Home Office Police Research Group and was founding Director of the UCL Jill Dando Institute.
Gloria has carried out research and development in prisons, policing and crime prevention, and has acted as a consultant and trainer on policing matters around the world.
She is currently a Professor of Crime Science at UCL and was Director of Research supporting the What Works Centre for Crime Reduction until 2016.
Gloria was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2008 for services to crime policy.
Professor Leslie Moran, Professor at Birkbeck School of Law, researcher on hate crime and sexuality in criminal justice
Leslie Moran has been a Professor in the School of Law Birkbeck College for the last 20 years. During that time hate crime has been a focus of his research, teaching and public engagement.
He published ‘Sexuality and the politics of violence and safety’, co-authored with Beverley Skeggs, about LGBT hate crime. He set up and taught a postgraduate course on hate crime.
He retired from his post at Birkbeck in 2019, but continues as a visiting research fellow.
Fiyaz Mughal, OBE, founder of two UK-based social enterprises – Tell MAMA and Faith Matters
Fiyaz Mughal’s working history includes over 18 years’ experience in the community and voluntary sectors in positions that have included social policy lobbying, project and general management, conflict resolution work, and working with leading organizations as the Chief Operating Officer.
Fiyaz is currently a trustee of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust. He is also the director of Faith Matters, which he founded. Faith Matters is a trusted not-for-profit organisation that for over twelve years has worked to tackle extremism and to build resilience within various faith and other communities in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.
In June 2009, Fiyaz was honoured by Her Majesty the Queen and was bestowed with the Honour of the Order of the British Empire.
Isaac Saliu, Deputy Youth MP for Westminster
Issac is currently studying at Pimlico Academy Sixth Form and is also a Deputy Member for Westminster in the Youth Parliament. “As one of the youth MPs of Westminster, I strive to represent the young people of the borough the best I can. I'm a prominent voice in the community and work diligently with service providers to give ideas that can be seen implemented in action that benefits young people.”
Sara Sutton, Executive Director, City Management & Communities, Westminster City Council
As Executive Director for City Management & Communities at Westminster City Council, Sara is responsible for a diverse range of services including public protection and licensing, leisure and libraries, city highways, and parks and waste services.
After starting her career in the private sector, Sara has worked in a variety of roles in local government over the last 18 years, including Head of Parking Services and Director or Public Protection and Licensing at Westminster City Council.
Sara’s current areas of priority are to work with partners and communities to tackle serious youth violence and knife crime and rough sleeping, anti-social behaviour, and of course hate crime.
