The City Treasurer’s department have set a new record for the submission of the annual statement of accounts.
The accounts were completed and submitted to the external auditors on Thursday 6th April 2017, just four working days after the end of the financial year.
This beat last year’s record by two days and Westminster City Council is the only Public Sector body to ever submit its accounts for audit within such a timescale. Once audited this performance will exceed 95% of the FTSE 100
Cllr Tim Mitchell, Westminster City Council Cabinet Member for Finance, Property and Corporate Services, said:
“This achievement highlights the dedication and skill of our staff, not just within the finance team but also colleagues across the council and partner organisations, who have shown great commitment and provided invaluable support.”
“Since 2008 we have faced significant financial challenges and we are delivering £130m of financial savings between 2015 and 2018.
“We have raised council tax to protect front-line adult social care services, but have also retained the lowest Band D council tax in the country.”
The team have been asked to share their best practice processes with many other authorities across the country.
The accounts, subject to audit, are available to access on the Westminster City Council website under annual accounts 2016-17.
