Westminster City Council can confirm that a public inquiry will be held into the demolition of the Carlton Tavern to establish what happened and why, and also decide the future of the pub. The council expects this to be held in early 2016.
In the meantime, the council has successfully won an injunction to stop any further demolition on the site in Maida Vale.
Cllr Robert Davis, deputy leader of Westminster City Council, said: "This is just one step – but a major one – in getting this pub rebuilt brick by brick. We asked for a public inquiry and we are delighted that we have been listened to.
“Our residents have made it very clear that they want this pub to return to its former glory, and we will not rest until all avenues have been explored to make sure it happens.”
