Starting secondary school from September 2020

Primary to secondary transfer 2020

If your child is in Year 6 of primary school, you will need to be thinking about which secondary schools you would like to apply to for your child to start their secondary education from September 2020.

To assist you in the application process, a hints and tips leaflet is provided with frequently asked questions. This leaflet includes all the visiting dates for Westminster secondary schools. Some schools will require your child to attend an ability banding test. These dates are also provided in this leaflet.

The application should be submitted online at

The 'Your choice for secondary education' brochure is available to view or download. This brochure includes the oversubscription criteria for all Westminster council  secondary schools, including how places were offered in the previous year.

To support your research, last years distance maps for the 2019 year of entry are provided. Whist the distance will vary each year, these maps will give you an idea of the home to school distance reached for schools that refer to this as the main criteria for allocating places.

Slideshow presentations are also provided with specific guidance for residents in the north and south of the borough.

Useful information

Please be aware, Ark King Solomon Academy is not part of the Secondary Transfer process. This is because pupils on the roll of the school in Year 6 will automatically move through to Year 7, so there are no additional places available for secondary transfer children.

However, every year a small number of pupils leave the school at the end of Year 6, meaning places will become available for external applicants. If you are interested in applying for a place in Year 7 at Ark King Solomon Academy, please complete an in-year application form.
