Support for young people in care

The children and young people’s panel

The children and young people’s panel (CYPP) meets 6 to 8 times a year to share views and experiences of being in care.

It offers activities and the chance to develop new skills, make new friends and have fun.

The aim of this group is to influence decision makers, contribute to the design of services and increase awareness of the issues affecting the lives of children in care and care leavers.

As a reward for your time, we will go on trips together e.g. bowling, theme parks (Thorpe Park or Chessington), ice skating, and trampolining.

We also want the CYPP to include children and young people who are in the care of Westminster but live outside London.

If you are interested in being part of the panel, tell your social worker or personal advisor, or call Hayley Moore on 07983392465 or email hmoore@westminster.gov.uk.

Independent visitors

Independent Visitor’s (IV’s) are volunteers who befriend a child in care. You will meet with your IV once a month and do a range of different activities depending on your interests. You might want to try a new sport or activity or catch up over a cup of tea.

You will decide with your IV what you want to do when you meet.

Get involved

Your social worker will usually refer you to the Independent Visitor programme, but you can also refer yourself. This involves filling out a form with information about yourself.

Find out more.

If you’d like to find out more or to request an IV, call Hayley Moore on 07983392465 or email hmoore@westminster.gov.uk.
