Ward: Lancaster Gate
Streets Affected: Queensway, Westbourne Grove
Project Type: Streetscape
Westminster City Council and the Bayswater Business Improvement District are planning streetscape improvements to Queensway and Westbourne Grove. We have developed the initial ideas in discussion with the South East Bayswater Residents’ Association and the Bayswater Residents’ Association.
The proposals will set a plan for improving both streets, which form the City of Westminster’s largest shopping area outside the West End. They will take several years to be implemented and are dependent on funding. Transport for London, Westminster City Council and businesses are pooling resources to fund a meaningful first phase costing over £1 million.
We propose that the first phase will be in the northern section of Queensway from Porchester Gardens to Westbourne Grove. We aim to create a greener boulevard to connect the two parts of the shopping area and reduce the expanse of road by removing the bus lane. As well as creating a pleasant place for shoppers, visitors and residents, businesses will be able to make use of the space for occasional quality street markets and events as a boost to retail.
The above proposals were presented for discussion at a manned display in Whiteleys Shopping centre on Queensway between 25th June and 13th July; with feedback also accepted via the on-line questionnaire until the 31st July.
We are now in the process of compiling the responses and comments received. These will be analysed in the context of the first phase proposals, and used to help refine the suggested improvements and plan of works.
There will be further opportunities to comment, and updates will also be reported on this web page.
