The second annual MyWestminster Day takes place this Sunday [1st July], with exciting activities, delicious world food, crafts, sports and the best local live music.
The completely free event at Paddington Recreation Ground aims to encourage pride in Westminster and is open to all from 11am to 3pm.
The event celebrates the diversity of Westminster’s special neighbourhoods and people, whilst at the same time recognising all that unites everyone as one community in the heart of London.
A huge range of activities will be available, including a zorb arena, bungee run and trampolines, giant games, dance workshops and face painting.
Marylebone Cricket Club are giving people the chance to to try their hand at cricket, while there is also beat the goalie, fencing and mini-athletics taking place, led by QPG Community & Sports Hub and Protouch SA.
Everyone Active will be offering a basketball challenge, mini athletics and short tennis throughout the day.
There will be free samples of food from all around the world, including jerk chicken, sweet potato and fennel rocket salad, yellow spiced Daal, noodles and fruit salad.
On stage music and entertainment will be provided by a whole range of different performers from around Westminster, including the Ebony Steel Band, Emile Bani, Pena Flamenca des Londres and West End Kids, a musical theatre troupe who also performed at West End Live.
Many other genres will also be represented, including line dancing, a choir and a Bollywood dance group.
There will also be a dance floor with a packed schedule of workshops and activities for all ages throughout the day, including street dance, Latin grooves and African dance.
In the community area people will be able to enjoy Indian head massages, free bike MOTs, yoga, ceramic painting and jewellery making to name but a few highlights. There will also be the chance to design your own football kit and there will be a messy play and bubbles area for young children.
Westminster City Council leader, Cllr Nickie Aiken, said: “MyWestminster Day is a unique opportunity for everybody to come together and enjoy a great day in the sun at Paddington Recreation ground.
“Last year was a huge success and I am very much looking forward to Sunday, which I am sure will be even bigger and better.”
