Renewing your vows

How and when you can renew your vows in a civil ceremony.

If you have previously had a legally recognised marriage or civil partnership ceremony, you can renew your vows in a civil ceremony.

Renewing your vows is an opportunity to reaffirm your commitment to each other in a personalised ceremony with your loved ones. This is a wonderful way to celebrate a special anniversary or a renewed commitment to one another.

Additionally, if you had your marriage or civil partnership ceremony abroad and would like a formal ceremony with friends and family in the UK, a renewal of vows ceremony may be the right option for you.

The ceremony has no legal standing and is non-religious.
