Community Mobile Recycling Day

Find out more about our mobile recycling centre and what you can recycle here.

We know it can be hard to recycle many household items you no longer need, and many things like pots and pans, electricals, and textiles end up in the wrong recycling bins or the rubbish. We’re bringing a mobile recycling centre closer to you to make it easier.

What items can I bring?

We encourage you to bring any household items to donate; all conditions and sizes are welcome. However, we can only take five bulkier items, such as furniture and white goods.

Examples of what we can accept an unlimited number of include:

  • clothes
  • books
  • toys
  • electrical appliances, such as a kettle, toaster, radio
  • homeware, such as saucepans, decorative items, art
  • bikes
  • household portable batteries, such as disposable batteries and rechargeable ones
  • plastic bags
  • lightbulbs

Examples of larger items we can accept (up to 5) include:

  • furniture, such as seating and tables
  • white goods, such as washing machines and fridges
  • large electrical items, such as TVs
  • mattresses

Dr Bike will provide a free bike service, so bring along your bike if it needs expert attention. The trained mechanics will provide a Systematic Cycle Check on your bike, making minor adjustments like brake tightening and tire pumping, and can advise on larger repair work. Please note the mechanics will not be able to fix any mechanical faults on electric or hybrid bicycles.

Swapping items

There will also be a ‘swap shop’ where you can take home any items that have been donated in good condition. There is a limit to the number of things you can take from the swap shop; however, the more items you donate, the more you can take home.

We are trying to reduce the amount of waste by giving items in good condition a new life. Any items left over at the end of the community mobile recycling centre day will be collected by the British Heart Foundation and distributed to their retail stores.

Everyone is welcome, even if you want to browse the swap shop or talk to our Recycling Team about our services.

Information and restrictions

Rules and restrictions of the mobile recycling centre day to bear in mind are:

  • dropping off bulky items will require proof of your Westminster address with an official letter (utility bill, council tax bill, banking statement) or driving licence
  • there is a limit of five bulky items, such as furniture and white goods, per household
  • we cannot accept builders’ waste, hazardous waste
  • we reserve the right to refuse donations
  • unfortunately, we cannot offer a collection service for the event. This means our crews will not be able to collect any items directly from your property and bring them to the mobile recycling centre

If you have large items you cannot drop off,  please book a bulky waste collection with us.

Please read our Recycling A to Z if you cannot attend the community mobile recycling day or have items we cannot accept.
