We introduced a food waste recycling trial service for some residents during autumn 2019 and continues today.
This trial services around 7,500 households and may expand further in the future. The properties included in the current trial will continue to receive a food waste recycling collection until further notice.
Around 30 per cent of the rubbish that we throw away is food waste. By using the new service, your food waste can be recycled, which will help reduce our impact on the environment.
Everything collected is sent for processing in a plant in Hertfordshire, England, where it is used to produce biogas (which in turn is used to generate electricity and heat) and biofertilizer, which is used on local farmland.
Collections will vary depending on your property type.
