Despite a record number of applications for primary school places in London this year, all children in Westminster have been awarded a primary school place, with 80% receiving their first choice.
Westminster has managed to stem the tide of pressure facing many local authorities, particularly in the capital, having enough places for every pupil as well as extra places available for late applications and those who will move to the city later in the year.
According to recent analysis, the Local Government Association predicts that by September next year, two in five local authorities in England - 66 out of 152 - will have more children ready to start school than there are places. In Westminster we have a place for every child looking to begin primary school in 2015, as well as extra places available for late applications and those who move to the city later in the year. We will continue to be able to provide places for every child in 2016.
