To operate a public weighbridge, you must have a certificate of competence issued under the provisions of the Weights and Measures Act 1985.

What happens next

When we receive an application, we first determine the suitability of the person and premises.

If they qualify, we send copies of the application to the relevant authorities for consultation on any terms and conditions, amendments, replacements or transfers.

Tacit consent

Tacit consent will apply if the application is unopposed following 60 working days after receiving the application. This means that you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from the licensing authority by the end of the target completion period.
