The Covid-19 pandemic continues to be a challenging time for many families, and in Westminster, the council is ensuring that no child goes without food or warmth over the coming months.

This winter, Westminster City Council has developed a comprehensive £750,000 package to support families and vulnerable people in need.

The funding, provided as part of the Government’s ‘Winter Covid Grant Scheme’, will ensure that eligible pupils will continue to receive free school meals during the Christmas holidays, and a range of grants will be provided to low-income families and vulnerable people.

The council and local schools have been working together to ensure that extra support reaches families in time for the Christmas break.

Further to this support package, the council and partners have brought together an action-packed programme of fun activities to enrich the lives of young people during the Christmas holidays.

Cllr Timothy Barnes, Westminster City Council Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and Libraries, said:

“Through the hard work we do within the community, we have the information required to ensure vulnerable residents and families are able to get the support they need from the funding package.

“It can be a stressful and challenging time of year with added costs and household bills on the rise during winter. We hope this grant relieves some of those extra financial pressures and thank schools for their help in distributing our Free School Meal vouchers.”
